To create elemental gems you need to match 4 or more gems in a line, or make them align in a T or L pattern. Skulls can only be destroyed by elemental magic. Locks can't be destroyed by magic, you need to match jewels around them. Frozen cells can be destroyed both by magic and by matching jewels above them. Spiders will evade when you touch them, so you have to catch the moment to kill them.
